I have a Dell Inspiron 6400. Yesterday I was using it when suddenly the OS(Win XP) froze. After the reboot and post, I got a black screen. I mean, Windows is not loading anymore.
1 - Tried to run the XP Recovery Console from the install CD, but the system locks up just after the default drivers loading when that "Setup is starting Windows" screen shows up.
2 - Tried to run that Dell Diagnostic Utility, it gave me an "PSA+ 2000-0221" error. According to Dell's Beeps and Fault Table, it means: "Interval Timer Channel 0 (mode 0) is not generating interrupts".
3 - Tried to run a 'live' Linux from CD. Boots and seems to work fine. Also, tried to restore the laptop to Windows Vista with Recovery Disk that Dell provided with the laptop and it seems works well.
4 - Tried to leave the laptop off with no battery for the rest of the day and night. Tried to boot up this morning with WinXP and no success. Vista works well. Diagnostic Utility gives the same error (PSA+ 2000-0221).
5 - Tried to flash to the newest BIOS avaiable (A17) and no success.
If this is a motherboard fault (according to Dell's Error Table), doesn't it seems weird that Linux and Windows Vista are running fine?
