Nah, UD is actually for the FBINST filesystem developed by Bean. And Bean has been grub4dos' maintainer. You may use the FBinstTool to format your USB key and create an FBINST volume on it. The boot record code of FBINST greatly improved the success of USB booting matters, as compared to other techniques. In grub4dos, the fbinst volume can be recognized as the (ud) device, and so it is called UD. Only one FBINST volume can be created on a USB storage device, and the volume must be located at the very beginning of the device. The volume cannot be recognized by normal OSes such as Windows and Linux, so it can be considered as hidden for those OSes. The FbinstTool will also create a normal FAT16/32 volume which takes up the rest of the space on the USB storage device.

By contrast, USB Boot is used in a general sense for USB booting issues.

I think you need to search about "fbint",it's a open source software.

Sorry, but I have no interest in the table you mentioned. I use the UD technique, and I have never used the other technique in the table, and will never.

You may use a tool called FBinstTool to create UD-bootable USB key. You may also google for "fbinst".

Sorry for my poor English.

A usb storage device(such as ufd) has different CHS parameter during boot becase different BIOSes have different algorithms.
(we don't think about the other BIOS usb support bug or ufd firmware  bug situations)

So during USB Boot normally, a ufd  will be boot successful under A BIOS, on the other hand it probably boot fail under B BIOS.
This situation is similar to a hard disk have different modes(Normal/Large/LBA,and so on) and will boot fail when not use corresponding mode
environment in intel 386 times.


UD make customization MBR and mini special file system(normally cost 8MB space),every sector includes boot code.
In order to boot sucessful no matter how BIOS set up ufd CHS.

But,only my personal opinion,Now I think that UD is not the best way.

Because
1、BIOS/UEFI value UFD'S firmware parameter. MBR(etc) is not most important thing.
So ud's thinking is not always effective.(Stronger BIOSes can cover this)
2、UD use special MBR,is not the most simple、most original MBR  -- DOS FAT MBR.
It will make some questions.
3、UD is devloped when we did not  know BIOS sorce codes and BIOS how to boot USB.
Now it's better to be different .We can fit BIOS/UEFI accordingly.
Because there are leak of the BIOS/UEFI source code can be some references.

How to use simple MBR (or complex MBR--although unnecessary )to get most boot  compatibility?  

We have to find UFD(chip/firmware) that can change firmware parameter be related to USB boot.
Adjust to  best parameter value.Use such UFD to make usb boot disk.
This is a fundamental solution.

You're right,the UD was can't boot in UEFI,but it have an other way,you can make your usbdisk to fat32,and take the EFI file into it,then you can boot in UEFI from this usbdisk,that's a easyliset way.

Sorry.

I'm not talking about the issue of UD that can't be guided by UEFI,

But that the UFD firmware parameter is the most important issue of BIOS/UEFI.

The tab is not worth the effort and time.
It uses fbinst and UI software to make a boot disk in order to guide WinPE.


Wrong use of hdd & zip's concepts.

Only BIOS can decide hdd/zip.(based on firmware parameter,such as RMB bit,Capacity, etc)

fbinst and UI software can't decide hdd/zip.

        答：我自己在实践中的认识+百度来的资料：

        UD ——U盘的UD分区：

         UD是使用时空论坛的bean制作fbinst或者它的gui界面fbinsttool产生的一个分区，可以在硬盘、U盘或

者是储存卡上上分出一个隐藏的分区，其特性是除了基于fbinst的工具可以进行读取之外的任何软件或者系统都

无法读取其中的数据，具有防病毒、木马和防格式化的功能！ 但是使用第三方的磁盘工具是可以进行删除UD分

区的，这是跟U盘量产一个不同的地方，可以轻易的恢复到原来U盘的状态。

        UD分区的目的是保护有用的文件不会被误删除和被病毒之类的篡改；如果要分区可见的话，根本不用ud分

区，可以用NT分区，也可用FAT分区，何必去绕弯UD分区呢。


        USB Boot——USB启动——U盘启动：

        一：为什么要用U盘启动？

        ——U盘启动是为了从U盘启动一些备份还原、PE操作系统等软件。现在大部分的电脑都支持U盘启动。在系

统崩溃和快速安装系统时能起到很大的作用。

        二：U盘的启动方法：

        1.把U盘仿真成一块硬盘来启动，DOS启动后显示为C盘。

        2.把U盘仿真成一张大容量软盘来启动，DOS启动后显示为A盘。

        3.把U盘仿真成一张光盘来启动，DOS启动后可以不占盘符。


        UD分区与启动U盘——USB boot之间的区别与联系：

        区别：

        一个U盘无论仿真成一块硬盘来启动，还是一张大容量软盘来启动，还是一张光盘来启动，里面都可以没有UD分区，

PE的文件等可以直接放在可见分区。

        在U盘里用fbinst设置了UD分区，也不一定要把U盘仿真成一块硬盘来启动，或仿真成一张大容量软盘来启动，或仿

真成一张光盘来启动——即也不一定要把U盘做成一个（可）启动U盘。

        联系：

        由于UD分区是一个隐藏的分区，其特性是除了基于fbinst的工具可以进行读取之外的任何软件或者系统都无法读取其

中的数据，具有防病毒、木马和防格式化的功能，所以大量的启动U盘都采用了UD分区，把PE的文件等放在UD分区可以防

Regardless of whether or not your boot software actually use it,
BIOS/UEFI always has to calculate and set CHS.

CHS calculation is based on the the UFD's firmware parameters.

This calculation process in the machine power, USB enumeration began.
Before the start of the usb boot.

So only use the idea of LBA  can not avoid the CHS problem.

没道理啊，应该能理解啊，几个计算机用语，都差不多的
简单说，UD是用FbinstTool建立的隐藏形式的启动，
普通模式的USB盘启动，不隐藏，正常模式下就可以对文件操作
